One of my favorite political quotes comes from a woman whose politics I dislike. In 1980 there were rumblings of dissent within the British Conservative party as Margaret Thatcher reduced social spending and brought in freemarket economic policies. Some Conservatives expected her to change tack but she had a message for them:
“To those waiting with bated breath for that favourite media catchphrase, the U-turn, I have only one thing to say: You turn if you want to. The lady’s not for turning!”
She wasn’t called the Iron Lady for nothing.
